Reference & Instruction Librarian

The Washington State University Libraries invites applications for Reference and Instruction Librarian, a full-time, 12-month, tenure-track position located in Pullman, Washington. This position reports to the Associate Dean of Libraries.

The Reference and Instruction Librarian will be primarily responsible for providing instruction to lower-level undergraduates and for providing and coordinating reference service in the Holland and Terrell Libraries.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

Undergraduate Services team as part of this team, will participate in instruction to English 101 and other lower undergraduate general education courses. Will also serve on the Research Services Steering Committee as Reference Coordinator with the Undergraduate Services team instruction coordinator and the two co-coordinators for the Subject Liaison team.

Reference Service will provide reference service in person and through virtual reference along with coordinating the in person and virtual services. This includes scheduling, hiring and training student assistants, keeping up to date with trends and developments, and communicating with library staff, faculty, student workers, and constituents.

Other duties special projects, other duties assigned depending on skills and experience.

Scholarship, Professional Development, and Service:
Keeps up on trends in librarianship and higher education.
Participates in professional organizations and attends workshops, conferences, institutes, etc. at the local, state and national level.
Participates in scholarly research and publication.
Performs in a manner consistent with the Library's Criteria for Merit Increases, Promotion and Granting of Tenure.
Serves on Library Working Groups, task forces and search committees.
Serves on WSU committees and task forces.
Performs related special assignments as necessary.

Required Qualifications:
Masters degree from an American Library Association (ALA)-Accredited Library and Information Studies program at date of hire; excellent oral and written communication skills; ability to work creatively, collaboratively, and effectively both as a team member and independently; experience in reference and/or instruction in an academic library setting; and experience in coordinating or managing a program or service.

Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with coordinating or managing a program or service specifically in an academic library setting; experience with creating and providing an instruction and outreach program(s); experience with classroom teaching inside or outside the library setting; experience with learning management systems and other electronic learning tools; demonstrated ability to assess and improve services; demonstrated commitment to and experience with diverse populations; documented achievement in research, creative work and professional service.
