Opening: Full time employment position for a Micrographic Technician at Backstage Library Works in Bethlehem, Pa

Temporary full-time, 2nd shift position available
Hours 2:00 p.m. - 10:30 p.m. or 3:00 p.m. - 11:30 p.m.
Position period: November 2019 October 2020
8.5 hour days, minus 30-minute unpaid lunch, 40 hours per week.

Responsibilities:

Backstage has focused on serving the needs of libraries, museums, and archives for more than 30 years. The micrographic technician will be responsible for daily microfilming and material handling of library and archival material which includes rare and brittle materials, including bound and unbound books, manuscripts, current and older newspapers, and scrapbooks in a production environment.

Responsibilities:
Understand the basic functions of a microfilm reformatting camera, including the ability to independently load and remove 35mm microfilm, set appropriate parameters, and take accurate density readings.
Handles, with care, fragile and brittle materials to be filmed, including and newspapers.
Film various material formats (books, newspapers, manuscripts, etc. without damaging client material.
Follows written project instructions and specifications in order to assure preservation quality microfilm.
Ensuring the film meets all industry and in-house guidelines.
Filming 40-hours per week.
Meets or exceeds in-house production, quality, and attendance requirements.
Performs periodic camera testing when needed.
Completes and maintains production and status records.
Participates in filming client samples and tests.

Qualifications:
College Degree, certificate, or two years production or preservation/reformatting experience.
Detail oriented
Able to work with rare and fragile materials in a production environment.
Able to work in a team environment and have good communication skills
Able to maintain a production rate as stated in the standards manual.
Ability to learn or have minimum computer skills
Work productively and independently while meeting daily production levels
Learn new skills quickly and thoroughly
Problem-solving and ability to follow written and verbal instructions with little supervision.
Ability to work flexible/overtime hours on occasion
Must be able to sit and/or stand for duration of shift, depending on work assignment.
Current Backstage employees must be in good standing meeting or exceeding standards in current position with at least one year of continuous employment.
Must meet requirements for Backstage Library Works and pass a written test.

Desirable but not required:
Microfilm and/or reformatting experience

This position is non-exempt, fully benefited position including eight paid holidays per year; twelve PTO days per;
major medical/dental/vision; tuition reimbursement; 401k retirement with Employer Match, Salary $13.25/hr.
