Hours: Monday-Friday, 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m., some evening and weekend hours

POSITION SUMMARY
The Director of the Library will be an innovative and collaborative leader who serves the mission of Franciscan University of Steubenville. The Director of the Library will supervise the efficient functioning, improvement, and use of the JP II Library by all Franciscan University students, faculty, and staff. The director is responsible for the library staff, budget, technology and physical collection, and will be given faculty status including voting rights. The Director of the Library is also a critical member of the leadership team within the Division of Academic Affairs at Franciscan University and will help plan for the future direction of the library and the academic mission of the University. Franciscan is an academically excellent and passionately Catholic university in the Franciscan tradition, located 24 miles west of Pittsburgh International Airport.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Oversees all Library employees, services, and policies to maintain and advance library services to all University constituents
2. Oversees maintenance and innovation of all technological infrastructure providing library services
3. Negotiates all external service provider contractors and consortium agreements
4. Hires, supports, and appraises all full-time and part-time library personnel
5. Oversees the library budget and aligns it with all strategic planning objectives
6. Responsible for all strategic planning related to the library and its service of the broader University mission
7. Oversees the training of all University students, faculty and staff in the optimal use of library resources
8. Provides plagiarism and copyright support and guidelines to University constituents
9. Represents the interests of the JPII Library to other divisions of the University and serves on university committees
10. Oversees the training and professional development of the library staff

Skills & Competencies

Technical Skills
1. Familiarity with common library database and preference for a familiarity with Sierra
2. Familiarity with a common reference database
3. Willingness and ability to learn all software currently in use at the JPII Library
4. Familiarity with Jenzabar desirable, but not required
5. Basic familiarity with the newest trends in library technology and a passion for staying informed and adopting fruitful new technologies

Non-Technical Skills
1. A commitment to the fulfillment and advancement of the mission of Franciscan University of Steubenville
2. An ability to collaboratively lead and inspire other librarians
3. Strong written and oral communication skills
4. Experience in collaborating with faculty, staff and students
5. An eagerness to learn and master new systems
6. A passion for innovation in improving the library

Education & Experience
A masters degree in the library science from an ALA accredited program is required
A second masters degree or terminal degree in a substantive field is preferred, particularly when experience is limited
At least four years experience in a supervisory role required
At least four years experience working in a library is required
Experience overseeing a complex budget

Workplace Factors
An ability and willingness to travel to professional conferences
An ability to lift twenty pounds in books
