Junction City was incorporated on October 31, 1872, making it the second oldest town in Lane County. At that time, Junction City's population was reported to be 600. Special events transform Junction City throughout the year, as streets close for annual festivals. These include the famous Scandinavian Festival in August, Function 4 Junction Classic Car Show and Cruise in June, Pet Parade in May and the Parade of Lights in December. With a population of 6,200, Junction City has a small town charm and is conveniently located 14 miles north of Eugene and 38 miles south of Corvallis. It is also centrally positioned between the scenic Oregon Coast and the impressive Cascade Mountains. Other local communities have events and festivities throughout the year, which provides an array of entertainment and cultural options.
