Chief Knowledge Architect
This full-time position will provide “cyber” library and information science expertise to the NBII Team and will be a key player in the intersection of content, technology, and user requirements. The successful candidate will help build the knowledge organization, content scope and coverage and response to user requirements. It will include selection/implementation of content standards and user testing. Personal initiative and expertise are valued to help build and implement strategic directions. This position is a great opportunity for exposure to national and international policy and technology issues, as well as involvement in federal agency and international programs. Position responsibilities and duties may include: - Development of website and portal areas for the NBII, - Conducting research and development on advanced methodologies and tools to improve current information systems, - Conducting inventories of the information tools and standards used by biologists to manage information, - Investigating new ways to build and retrieve relevant information content, Development of scope and coverage knowledge management approaches for the NBII - Standardizing and providing information content on national plans, priorities, spatial and temporal information on the components of biological diversity, - Creative information scouting and acquisitions management activities, Building partnership relationships with other organizations (governmental, non-profit, conservation, community groups, etc.), - Electronic acquisition of relevant content Qualifications (Required): - MLS w/ computer or information science expertise and experience, Min. of 5 years experience, preferably building digital libraries or cyber-infrastructures - Understanding of digital formats, conversion alternatives, metadata standards, - Knowledge of access and navigation tools/approaches, and institutional repository and digital preservation issues, - Experience w/ scientific and multi-media/non-text formats, - Must work well in teams and with a variety of people and cultures, - Excellent oral and written communication skills, - Excellent analytical skills, - Self motivated, high energy and ability to multi-task, - Must be available to travel domestically and internationally, Qualifications (Desirable but not mandatory; will provide educational opportunities): - Experience working w/ scientific communities - Biodiversity/Biology/Ecology/Conservation Biology background - Computer Science/GIS/ESRI experience Please access our website: w w w (dot) iiaweb (dot) com, complete the online application forms to include e-mail addresses of professional references, and email to: Martha Wallus, VP of HR and Admin IIa is an EEO/AA employer Note: Please mention Get Library Jobs (GetLibraryJobs.com) in your cover letter when applying.
